Multiple Municipal and County Schools Systems - SELC has provided EPA / AHERA compliant asbestos inspections, prepared project design specifications, provided project oversight / project monitoring, and conducted final re-occupancy / clearance testing for over 120 asbestos related projects.

Defense and Governmental (Federal):

SELC has provided EPA / NESHAP asbestos , hazardous materials, and other regulated materials inspections, project design specifications, and abatement oversight and final re-occupancy / clearance verification at various DOD facilities including locations such as Fort McLellan, AL.;Anniston Army Depot, AL.; Maxwell Airforce Base, AL; Gunter Airforce Base, AL; Fort Rucker, AL., Fort Gordon, GA: Fort Benning, GA; Keesler Airforce Base, MS; Groton Submarine Base, CT; Naval Support Base, Millington, TN; US Coast Guard Station, Vicksburg, MS; US Coast Guard Station, Charleston, SC; National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, MD.

Health Care and Governmental (Federal):

SELC has provided EPA / NESHAP asbestos, hazardous materials and other regulated materials inspections, project design specifications, and abatement oversight including final re-occupancy / clearance verification at Veteran’s Affairs Medical Centers (VAMC) in Birmingham, AL, Tuscaloosa, AL, Montgomery, AL, Selma, AL, Tuskegee, AL, Huntsville, AL, Augusta, GA, Atlanta, GA, Charleston, SC, and Memphis, TN.

Utility and Power Generation (Industrial):

SELC routinely provides Industrial Hygiene/Personnel Exposure compliance services for multiple Southern Company electric power generation plants in three states, including Alabama, Georgia, and Mississippi. SELC has also provided asbestos-containing waste building materials inspections and project design specifications at more than 20 power plants and five hydroelectric dams, including fourteen decommissioned coal-fired power plants. A number of the power plant facilities exceed 4,000,000 square feet of floor space with complex process and equipment layouts. All site inspections and project design specifications were completed within an average of five months.

Utility and Governmental (Federal):

Major Regional Utility Authority; SELC inspected and assessed 55 buildings; containing over 2,000,000 square feet of floor space for Asbestos Containing Building Materials (ACBM), Lead Based Paint Hazards (LBP), Universal Wastes and Other Regulated Materials (UM/ORM). Field work and final reporting were completed in less than 45 days.

Transportation and Government (State):

SELC provided numerous EPA / NESHAP asbestos, hazardous materials, and other regulated materials inspections, project design specifications, and abatement oversight including final re-occupancy / clearance monitoring to multiple ALDOT facilities throughout the State of Alabama, including the cities of Troy, Montgomery, and Birmingham.

Higher Education / Universities (State and Private):

SELC routinely provides indoor air quality / regulated materials inspection and testing services (including asbestos, lead, mold, Legionella, other pathogenic bacteria, particulate identification, heavy metals analyses, organic compound analyses, soil sampling and analyses, UST tank closure assessments, potable drinking water analyses, etc.) to major educational facilities such as University of Alabama Birmingham, University of Alabama Tuscaloosa, University of Alabama Huntsville, Athens State University, University of North Alabama, Samford University, Tuskegee University, and Troy University.

Government Housing Authorities (State and Local):

SELC has provided Lead Based Paint inspections, risk assessments, and project design specifications for numerous housing authority entities across four states, including Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, and Tennessee.

Defense and Governmental (Federal):

U.S. Army Facility; Chemical Agent Destruction - Ton Container Site: SELC provided industrial hygiene exposure assessments and environmental sampling on a daily operational basis for over three years. Services included source (stack) testing, hazardous waste characterization, and personnel exposure monitoring for chemical agent, mercury, arsenic, lead and other heavy metals.

Defense and Governmental (Federal):

SELC provided in-depth indoor air quality/indoor environmental quality assessments and building science support to fully delineate remediation, renovation and replacement requirements at multiple DOD locations and US Army installations across the Southeast including hospital buildings, barracks, dormitories, cafeterias, and personnel training facilities. Services included asbestos, lead, mold, Legionella, other pathogenic bacteria, particulate identification, heavy metals analyses, organic compound analyses, potable drinking water analyses, etc.

Residential and Commercial Property:

Performing over 400 assessments annually in this category, SELC provides in-depth indoor air quality /indoor environmental quality assessments and building science support to fully delineate remediation, renovation and replacement requirements at residential structures and commercial facilities, across the Southeast. These services typically support the evaluation and remediation of asbestos, lead, mold and bacterial contamination issues. We routinely support school systems, health care facilities, single family residences, apartment complexes, restaurants, shopping centers, and high-rise office facilities.

Industrial and Manufacturing:

SELC performed EPA / NESHAP asbestos-containing building materials inspections, Asbestos Management Plan development and OSHA labelling for a large paper mill facility in Brewton, Alabama. This project was in support of renovation of an approximately 1 million square foot portion of the facility, as well as complying with EPA and OSHA asbestos requirements for the remainder of the facility. The site included very complex, multi-story process and equipment layouts. The effort was completed within six months.

Food Service and Manufacturing:

SELC routinely provides bacterial and fungal testing for food service supply facilities in the Birmingham, Alabama area, assisting with compliance with local, state, and federal health guidelines for safe food handling.

Industrial and Manufacturing:

Nationwide Structural and Specialty Steel Manufacturer: SELC provides industrial hygiene and environmental health support services to include a wide range of exposure assessments such as total and respirable particulate, heavy metals, silica, noise, carbon monoxide, acids, heat stress, electromagnetic field strength, radiation, ergonomic issues, microbial contamination, and combustible dust hazard analyses.

Insurance and Commercial Real Estate:

SELC has provided Indoor Environmental Quality Assessments (mold, asbestos, etc.) for large loss insurance claims and multistory commercial apartments. Specifically, SELC supported an insurance company evaluation of a four (4) story, 92 unit, ~ 150,000 square foot apartment complex. This assessment saved the insurance company large sums of adjustment money by locating specific areas of impact and developing appropriate remediation and abatement scopes of work.

Insurance and Commercial Real Estate:

SELC has provided Indoor Environmental Quality Assessments (mold, asbestos, etc.) for large loss insurance claims and multistory commercial apartments. Specifically, SELC supported an insurance company evaluation of a 13 story, ~ 450,000 square foot apartment complex. Again, this assessment saved the insurance company large sums of adjustment money by locating specific areas of impact and developing appropriate remediation and abatement scopes of work.

Museums and Commercial Real Estate:

SELC has provided Indoor Environmental Quality Assessments (mold, asbestos, etc.) for museums and other commercial facilities. As a specific example, SELC supported a local museum in the evaluation of its multi-story, ~ 150,000 square foot facility. Multiple inspections and assessments identified heating, ventilation and air conditioning issues as well as direct water intrusion events which were impacting the museums artifacts and indoor environmental quality / indoor air quality. SELC developed appropriate remediation protocols and scopes of work to alleviate the reoccurring issues.

Attorney and Legal Support:

SELC has provided a number of assessments for indoor air quality / indoor environmental quality and personal exposures to provide technical insight for attorneys and litigation support. Parameters such as heavy metals exposure, microbial growth, gaseous compounds, particulate forms, silica, and asbestos are commonly evaluated. SELC has professional level, subject matter experts as it relates to the assessment of personnel exposures and indoor air quality.
